It is produced by smelting quartz and iron in an electric arc furnace at high temperatures.
Ferro silicon is commonly used as a deoxidizer and alloying agent in the production of steel and cast iron. Its main function is to remove oxygen and other impurities from the molten metal, thereby improving the quality and properties of the final product.
